MY X-TECH MODS!

DETACHABLE TOW HITCH
I decided to remove the existing NAS Spec Bumper that was fitted by the previous owner. The main reason for this was that the bumper, although genuine LR (haha), was rusting away! I was worried this rust would eventually pass onto and start rusting the rear crossmember - an already vulnerable part of the chassis!

So I had to decide what to replace it with, and in the end I decided on a detachable tow hitch (like they use in America). Quite a few companies in the UK have started selling them, and prices can vary a lot. I got mine from Safari Equip as they were the cheapest around for what is virtually the same product. One thing to note is that they are NOT technically legal to use in the UK as they are not EC approved - however this law only applies to vehicles after 1998 that are classed as cars... as the hard top is classed as a commercial vehicle this should not affect my vehicle.

Onto the pictures, they are fairly easy and self explanitory to fit (especially if you are removing an old one) so I didn't take pictures of that stage. The first picture shows it all bolted on with it's protective cover...

This picture shows the towing implement... This is great as I will be able to have the tow ball lower than before...

This picture shows the recovery implement...

I have yet to tow with it, so I will have to update once I have.
I now also need a step as I can't get in and out of the back without a struggle!
As you can see I also need to sort out the sockets, and take a look at the crossmember!

UPDATE

I have now added a rear step and attached the sockets... The step was a basic bolt on double step from Paddock Spares...
